The new school year will be here soon and with the influx of new homeschoolers I decided that it would be best to gather the core of our curriculum early this year! Today I’m sharing with you our second grade curriculum choices.
Language Arts
Amelia, my oldest, will be moving from the Level K language arts program to the Level 1 program from The Good and The Beautiful.

She will also be going through the first 4 books from the Explode the Code series.

Reading
I’ve purchased a few extra books for Amelia to read that I though would interest her. And we also have a large collection of early readers, as well as the box books from The Good and The Beautiful for her to read. She is a reluctant reader so my goal for this year is to build her confidence in reading.

Handwriting
I love the handwriting workbooks from The Good and The Beautiful. As soon as Amelia finishes her Level 1, she will move into Level 2.

Math
Amelia is finishing Level 1 Math, from there she will move into Level 2.

HISTORY
We are using The Good and The Beautiful Year 1 history, along with the read-aloud pack. I’m going to review the read aloud books and decide if I want to read them all or just a couple. I’m thinking picture books from the library might be better at this age.

science
We are using the science units from The Good and The Beautiful as well. I purchased a few and in my term plans I have us going through 2 units per term, but we’ll see how that goes.
I plan on sharing how I prep these units and the activities/supplements that I’ve bought to go along with them as we go through them.

Nature Study
Like I shared in my first grade curriculum choices I will be choosing certain weeks to cover in this curriculum.

Read Alouds
I have chosen 6 read aloud book for the year about 2 books per term.

Music
Amelia will continue to take piano lessons this year. We are also thinking of using the SQUILT music program.
Picture Study
I haven’t receive my Picture Study Portfolios from Simply Charlotte Mason yet, but we will be starting out year with Giotto and Da Vinci picture study’s.
Art
Our science, history and nature curriculums are very hands on which is how we are incorporating art this year. Between crafts, painting and projects I think we’ll be all set.
