We are moving. I still can’t believe it. Sometimes I look around this house and wonder why. We’ve put so much into this home and it is filled with so many memories. But then I am reminded of all the reasons my husband and I decided to make this change. Reason’s like we need to be closer to the other children in our church, closer to the school we want to send our girls to. And the main reason – to simplify our lives.
Right after we bought our current home we decided to change most of the 2nd floor and convert the two bedrooms into three. We took everything down to the studs and designed a whole new layout. We also ripped out all of the carpet and had hard wood floors installed throughout the entire house. Then when we moved into this house in October of 2012, it was the same day I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Amelia. It was a crazy day to say the least. But ever since that day, the day our whole lives turned upside down, things have been chaotic. One year later I became pregnant with our second daughter, Clara and she was born in July of 2014 and again our lives were made even more chaotic when she joined our family.
Then we decided it would be a good idea to gut our entire kitchen in May of 2015 and do a complete renovation down to the studs! We had a load bearing wall removed and installed a 500lb beam into our ceiling, ripped out all the cabinets, bought new cabinets, built them, installed a planked ceiling, and bought all new appliances. We designed the layout and contracted out the work we couldn’t do ourselves to save money. It was amazing, but caused a lot of shoving things into corners and a very cluttered basement. We’ve also had many family gatherings and time spent together here. Ripping down trees and tearing down walls. It has been a whirlwind in this house. And it’s going to be really hard to say goodbye. So much work. So many memories. But it is necessary. Necessary for us to grow. To grow closer to God. To grow closer to like-minded friends. To grow as a family.
I’m excited for you to join me on this adventure of documenting our move – de-clutter/packing, living in an apartment, buying a new house and then making it into our home. That is why I am creating this blog. To document our journey and to share the things that I am passionate about with you.
